Pilates Par For The Course
From : www.kold.com
Everyone wants to be like Tiger Woods and that means being in tip-top physical condition. That’s not just hitting the weight room but practicing Pilates too.
“Pilates are big with golfers and on tour too,” Paul Nolen, the head golf pro at The Gallery Golf Club in Dove Mountain, said. “We have a Pilates center in our sports center now and it’s always full.”
Joseph Pilates introduced his exercise methods nearly Fifty years ago for dancers. It’s only been the last ten years, though, that his methods have become mainstream and most recently on the golf scene.
“We have golfers in here all the time,” Monique Mynlieff of Red Monkey Studios said. “Pilates keep your spine in line with stretching and also strengthens the lower back muscles that are needed in a good golf swing.”
Clients at the Red Monkey studio use Pilates as well as a derivative of the excercise known as Gyrotonics. It uses weights and cables.
“It’s all about tork and that’s the benefit of Pilates,” Nolen said. “tiger has raised the bar in conditioning so every golfer needs to do something like this if they want to keep up.”
It may not help you drive the ball straighter, but at least you’d be on the right course.
