Suspect arrested in I-64 shootings

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police have arrested a suspect in the Interstate 64 shootings.
The state police superintendent identified the suspect today as 19-year-old Slade Woodson of Afton.
Colonel Steven Flaherty said at a Charlottesville news conference today that Woodson was arrested at about 5 a.m. near Crozet (kroh’-ZAY) at Yonder Hill Farm as state and local police served a search warrant there.
Flaherty said Woodson and four other people were at the home. Another man confronted police with a handgun and a county law enforcement officer shot him. Flaherty did not identify the man, but said he was flown to University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment.
Flaherty said Woodson is a suspect in yesterday’s I-64 shootings west of Charlottesville, but has not been charged in those shootings.
He is charged in two shootings that happened early yesterday in Waynesboro — at a home and a credit union. Woodson is charged with shooting into an occupied building and destruction of property, both felonies.
Flaherty said police found Woodson’s car last night after it was abandoned along Route 29. He said evidence from the car is being compared to evidence in the I-64 shootings.
