NY maple producers hold annual open house weekend
Associated Press - March 29, 2008
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Sap will be simmering at sugarhouses across the state this weekend, and many of them are holding open houses in the 13th annual Maple Weekend.
More than 100 maple producers across New York state are participating in the 2-day event, today and Sunday. The head of the state Maple Producers Association says the event gives people the opportunity to learn about the maple industry and how products such as maple syrup are made.
The free open houses run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Some will include free pancake breakfasts and horse-drawn wagon tours of the sugarbush.

In 2007, New York’s 1,500 maple syrup producers made more than 224,000 gallons of syrup. Only Vermont produced more syrup in the United States, with 450,000 gallons.
